MotoGP has now announced that it is now completing a five -year contract for Pirelli to replace Michelin as the only supplier of the World Championship tire, starting in 2027.

The news broke on Thursday morning that Michelin would stop producing tires for MotoGP after 2026. The French manufacturer’s decision will end Michelin’s 11 -year relationship with the Premier Class and see Pirelli to create tires for MotoGP, as well as moto2 and moto3.

Pirelli replaced Dunlop in front of the 2024 World Championship as the exclusive tire supplier for intermediate and light classes. Now, the Italian brand is going to add a MotoGP supply to its contract in 2027, with Pirelli’s agreement extending even from 2026 to 2031.

MotoGP feels that Pirelli that produces the tires for all three World Championships from 2027-2031 will “offer the perfect growth staircase” as riders go up from Moto3 to Moto2 and then to MotoGP. Pirelli will also start providing tires for changes to the MotoGPps rule in 2027.

Michelin had begun working for possible associations for technical rules coming in 2027 before confirming this Thursday to terminate MotoGP. The CLERMONT-Ferrand brand has often been criticized by MotoGP riders and teams in the Michelin Build tires.
