MotoGP riders said that not “allowed” to say one thing about Michelin tires until Pirelli replaced them

Michelin will no longer be the tire supplier at MotoGP since the end of 2026. As sport enters a new era of regulations, Pirelli is about to get.

The sport confirmed in a statement on Thursday that their collaboration with Michelin will end. Pirelli already has an agreement with Formula 1 and is now represented in the top two wheels.

Michelin’s first stop at the Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing started in 1992 and lasted until 2008. They returned in 2016, replacing Bridgestone.

The French company was Bes with controversy even before 2025. World champion Jorge Martin was a jider in a serious test crash, and Aprilia claimed the tires accused.

Michelin was unstoppable that Martin’s tire was “high performance”, rejecting Massimo Rivola’s criticism. However, later they revealed that the internal temperature of the compound was much lower than the normal operating window.

MotoGP riders cannot criticize Michelin until Pirelli takes over

Speaking to Tank Slappers’ podcast earlier this week, before confirming News Michelin, journalist Uri Puigdemont strongly hints at Paddock.

He revealed that, before 2024, each group received an email that should talk about tires. In fact, they keep it allowed to be critical.

The contract was that they would address any issues behind closed doors. Rivola ignored it clearly after Martin’s Sepang accident.

Generally, if a tire supplier is in the titles, it is for the wrong reasons. Pirelli deals with multiple scandals in Formula 1, including driver safety risks, but this has not stopped expanding their contract

“Riders do not want to criticize Michelin,” Puigdemont said. “It’s a shame. But they are not allowed to criticize Michelin.

“It’s crazy about the level of respect they need to show for Michelin. Last season, before the beginning, all the teams received an email from Irta-the international teams dealing with the teams that have given them or suggest what riders should say when they have a problem.

How Aprilia’s opponents reacted to Massimo Rivola’s Michelin allegations after Jorge Martin Crash

Pirelli replaced Dunlop in Moto2 and Moto3 in 2024, so they should be well prepared. The first class bikes will put their rubber under more pressure, but it is a natural next step.

Come in 2027, MotoGP will import smaller engines and reduce aerodynamics to improve safety and sustainability while still promoting Close Racing. The new tires will create another challenge for riders.

After Martin’s crash, Aprilia’s opponents suggested that Rivola protects his own. May not have the bone to admit a rider error or mechanical issue.

But if Michelin wanted a new deal, their public dispute with one of the manufacturers certainly hurt their chances. Pirelli’s initial agreement lasts until 2031.
