Francesco Bagnaia does not enjoy a good start for the 2025 era at The Thai Grand Prix with the Ducati star having to pass through Q1 after a disappointing practice.
Buriram welcomed the MotoGP field back to launch the 2025 campaign just a week after organizing the second test before the season. The Thai Grand Prix has also proceeded from its old delayed reception, with MotoGP last at Buriram when Bagnaia won from Pole in October.
Bagnaia was unbeatable in the GP of 2024, as it took a pole with a 0.232 second margin in the then-Teamate Enea Bastianini before defeating Jorge Martin’s opponent for 2905s. Martin stole the lead from the line, but Bagnaia pulled back to 4 out of 26 and ran to victory.
However, Bagnaia must pass through Q1 if the Ducati rider is going to score back -to -back positions in Buriram that failed to qualify for Q2 at The Thai GP. His frustration is not only addressed to Franco Morbidelli, as the rider VR46 blocks Bagnaia slowly in practice.

What did Franco Morbidelli say about his incident with Pecco Bagnaia in Buriram?
The direction of the race was handed over to Morbidelli with a three -seat grid penalty for the Grand Prix of Thailand due to its incident with Bagnaia in practice. However, unlike Ducati rider, the VR46 pilot sealed an automatic position in the Q2. So Morbidelli will start Sunday’s Thai GP from no lower than P15.
Bagnaia could face the start of the Thai GP from P12, at best, if it does not proceed to Q2 and Morbidelli ranks among the slowest of the 12 riders in the final of the qualifiers before applying the sentence. A Morbidelli penalty admits that it is justified for a “dangerous” situation.
“I accept the sentence, it was dangerous,” Morbidelli said Sky Sports Italia. “What happened is strange. The riders in front of us believed that there were still yellow flags and slowed down a lot. When I arrived, I slowed down too, and I didn’t get away from the line.
